6 SURE-FIRE WAYS TO GET WRITING AND KEEP WRITING
Have you ever noticed how easy non-writers think writing is? If you're a writer, that can be frustrating.
Writing is often a common dream for people. Yet some people who have a dream of writing don't actually pursue it. Some of them barely even ready. Writers who actually do earn a living from their books or articles or anything they want, it's still a struggle to stay motivated.
1. Get motivated
Accept that you're responsible for your own actions. Acknowledge that you're the only person you can do this. That if you don't glue your backside to a chair and start, then finish writing your article or book, no one else is going to come over there and do it for you.
2. Create tight imaginary deadline for yourself to spur you on
Try pretending you only have an hour and a half to write today and that can be a good way to get on with it. Or ask yourself that if you only had a month to live, what would you write or finish writing about. I motivated myself to finish a 20 chapter book by the end of 6 months then I never would. These tactics do work and best of all, no one has to die in the process! Lol.
3. Commit to your writing
Set a date and time everyday for yourself to start writing.
make it part of your daily routine and keep that routine until it becomes a habit. Now just stay focused. If its a book, you'll need to be able to maintain that focus for months. Now if its an article or blog post you'll need to stay focused for an hour or two.
4. Remove all distractions
You know what your distractions are! Turn off the phone, iPad,find a place where you can write away- completely oblivious to your household duties. Which are being neglected, lol! Use a kitchen timer to keep you seated and writing. Set the timer for an hour or two. When the timer goes off have a 5 or 10 minute break then repeat until your piece is finished.
5. Use motivational tools
Don't dis Instagram as a time waster or, at best, a simple networking tool. You can follow famous writers who possibly post motivating writing stuff and tips! They probably post constantly post what they were able to write that day and how much. You could direct message him/her a question about writing. And just keep looking at their post to see what they say.
6. Co-motivating
Sometimes on Instagram people challenge other writers or bloggers to a word race. As they both write more than they would have otherwise, they both end up winning. Thats a fun way to challenge yourself and other writers. This type of motivation have a name- 'BookMarking'. Basically you tell someone your goal and update then constantly on your progress. It could be done through txt, email, social networking, anything really.
Final word on motivation
Who gives a crap if writing's intangible, unpaid, and misunderstood? We mark our progress in words and we don't worry that most of them might be removed at the end. We pay ourselves a favor each time we put a pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard, we practice our craft. We wage a war against writers block on a daily basis and we WIN!!
